Make the District Attorney Work For His Money!
DA's and assistant DA's have huge back loads of cases in most jurisdictions so if the crime is not heinous they are not interested in fighting a uphill battle in court. If you have protected your rights and you do end up in court, your lawyer or attourney will have more room to move and with more options he can make the DA work even harder and make him protect more. Or the DA will make a deal that is much better than if you had not protected your legal rights to begin with. This all goes out the window however if you have given them a legal confession. Your legal counsel will have no choices that are going to benefit you
If you are arrested
If you are arrested the DA will need to look at the information and the evidence that the police have collected and make a decision should they prosecute or not. District attorneys and assistant district attorneys are busy people and they like to be efficient, so given a choice of defending a hard case or not many times they will dismiss the charges and the process stops right there, this is much better than if you were a good citizen and gave the DA everything that they needed to prosecute & convict you and make the job of your attorney that much harder and more expensive.
If you are arrested remember to be polite but firm and to insist that your lawyer be present you might consider saying something along these lines " I understand that I have legal rights. I have done nothing wrong and want to protect my rights by having a layer present if you want to ask any questions. Only give them your name birth date & address any thing else insist that your attourney be present.
There is always going to be a need for lawyers and figuring out when is always going to be tricky. Many attourneys will answer some questions for you for free to see if you do need there services, others might charge a small legal consultation fee. If you do need a lawyer, looking for a cheap one might actually cost you more money in the long run!
